I recently did a mini bedroom makeover on a budget in our guest bedroom, and today I’m sharing all of the details!

Last week I was listening to a podcast with Amber Lewis from Amber Interiors being interviewed. (You can find the podcast here.) Anyway, at one point the hosts asked her where in the home you should splurge versus where you should save. Her answer was to splurge on furniture you will have forever, and save on things like rugs & decor that you can switch out more often. The host was shocked. She thought for sure she was going to say to splurge on rugs.
Me? Not shocked at all. It is great advice!
And, it’s exactly what I did with this room refresh! When I originally did this room, I splurged on the bed & bedside tables, knowing I would have them for a long time. They are still my very favorite pieces, and because I picked neutral on both, I can easily switch out the decor pieces to get a new look!
Before we get too far along, let’s back up. We need to see where we came from. Here is the last version of our guest bedroom:

I loved this edition of the guest bedroom, but I was just ready for a change! Plus, I think it is fun to see what I can do to a space affordably!
(Note- If you weren’t here for our original guest bedroom makeover, you can read all about that here: Small Space Bedroom Makeover.)
bedroom makeover: the rug

Ok, maybe the entire reason I wanted to redo this room was because I wanted to use this Loloi Layla Olive & Charcoal Rug somewhere in my home! You guys, it is so good! It is perfect for layering over carpet, because it is thin and lays completely flat. It is also really soft under foot, and hides dirt really well! Don’t ask me how I know this 🙂 ! I highly recommend it!
The best part about this rug? The price tag! I have the 7.5’x9.5′ and right now it is $232 on Amazon!
bedroom makeover: artwork

After I had the rug, the next piece of decor I picked out was the artwork! I knew Farmstead from Collection Prints was going to be perfect with my new rug. The thing I love about Collection Prints, is you can order an affordable digital print, and have it printed yourself, or they will print it for you. Make it even more affordable by adding the print to a frame you already have!
Bonus- their 4th of July sale continues today with 40% off digital prints, as well as non-framed paper prints! My print above is $12 for the digital download and $30 for a paper print on sale today! I have the 20×16.
bedroom makeover on a budget: accent furniture

My corner Accent Chair is such a great price at $160! Bonus- it is great in small spaces!
I’m loving the lighter look of these affordable Cream Ottomans at the end of the bed for summer! They also look great under a console table, or in a living room as extra seating. A great buy!
bedroom makeover on a budget: decor

Next, I ordered a few new pieces of decor. I am in love with this Oversized Lumbar Pillow! It is so much more affordable compared to adding several smaller pillows! And, it comes with the insert!
This lightweight (and affordable) Throw Blanket is perfect for this time of year. I love the look of folding a blanket and displaying it on an open bedside table! Functional decor at its best.
Sadly, my new table lamps are currently unavailable at Target, but this Overstock Table Lamp is similar.
