Friends, I have had the Pottery Barn Chunky Wool Jute Area Rug for over 5 years now! This means I am now qualified to deem it officially the best jute rug. Ok, technically it is a wool jute combo, but I’m sticking to it. Sharing 6 reasons why it is officially the best jute rug!
I have a lot of area rugs throughout my home, and they are often rotated in and out with the exception of this rug. This rug has been the one constant in our living room with the ever-changing home decor & furniture.
It has seen it all.
And weathered the storm, which says a lot in itself about how much I must love this area rug!
6 Reasons This Is The Best Jute Rug
1. it creates the perfect blank slate to use with any color

Friends, I LOVE this rug. It is beautiful, and soft, and seriously goes with any color I throw at it.
We have it in the natural color, which is the perfect neutral that allows me to basically use it as a blank slate.
I have paired it with red & green for Christmas.

It goes perfectly with blues and blush for summer.

Olive and black for winter, and neutral pillows year-round. It really is the chameleon of area rugs!

This rug is also the perfect complement to other rugs. Because it is neutral, I am able to bring other patterned rugs in around it!

2. the best jute rug is super durable
It is in our main living room, which is definitely one of our highest traffic areas, and the room we use most. So it has got a lot of use over the years. Like all day, every day. But guess what?!? It still looks amazing!

From Pottery Barn’s website: Designed for high-traffic areas, the natural beauty of this hand-loomed rug grounds your space with rich texture.
3. it’s the coziest rug

My other jute area rug is the furthest thing from cozy, but I am here to tell you that this one is super soft underfoot!
From Pottery Barn’s website: “The wool fibers are bouclé-woven over a jute base to create a cozy feel underfoot.” They are not kidding!
4. it is the perfect base for a layered rug look
Want to try the layered rug look? This is the perfect rug to start with. As I mentioned above, it goes with so many different colors, making it easy to coordinate with a different area rug.
You can see an example in this video where I show the layered look in my living room.
5. it adds warmth to an all-white room

Because I have white walls throughout my home, I have to add warmth to each of my spaces in different ways, so it doesn’t feel cold and boring.
And this rug does just that! If the rug wasn’t in the space, my living room would have a completely different feel. Less cozy, and definitely more boring.
Want to know a little-known fact? I love the style of and the warmth of this rug so much that I bought it twice.
Yep, when I first was decorating our home years ago, I bought this rug for our home office/study as well.

I eventually got tired of the matchy/matchy and switched it out. The smaller rug is stored away in our attic patiently waiting for another opportunity to make an appearance.

6. the best jute rug adds texture to a space

Rugs with natural fibers add the perfect amount of organic texture to a space, and this one does it well.
And although our rug is quite large, and obviously adds a lot of texture to our living room, you could get the same added texture by picking a smaller rug or runner for an entryway or kitchen.

the negative:
Ok, now that I have gushed over all of the reasons this is the best jute area rug, I have to fill you in on the one negative. It sheds. It doesn’t shed enough to bother me, but it definitely sheds. If I sit down on it with black leggings on, my leggings will have little fuzzies all over them. I think it kind of goes with owning natural fiber rugs. As I mentioned, this is a non-issue for us, but I always like to mention it because this may be an issue for some people.
From the Pottery Barn website, “Shedding of loose fibers is normal and will diminish with regular vacuuming.”
material details:
It is hand-loomed in India from 60% jute and 40% wool.
Each of these jute rugs is woven by hand and is one-of-a-kind.
It is made with sustainably harvested jute; a fast-growing, renewable natural fiber.
Self-binding results in a rug that resists curling and maintains its quality over time.
This rug comes in several different sizes! 3×5, 4×6, 5×8, 6×9, 8×10, 9×12, 10×14, 12×19, 2.5×9 runner, 2.5×12 runner, 6′ round, 8′ square.
According to the Pottery Barn website:

Blot spills immediately with a white cloth.
Harsh chemicals may damage or fade the rug.
