Add a garland
First, I like to start with a really nice garland. The one I have is several years old, and unfortunately no longer available. Mine came with lights, and is really full with an assortment of greenery, which makes it easy to work with. I really like this Frontgate pre-lit cordless garland option if you don’t have a plug-in nearby. This plug-in mixed pine pre-lit garland has great reviews and is a great price. This affordable Target boxwood garland is a nice choice if you prefer a garland without lights. Lastly, I am loving this Simple And Lifelike Faux Pine Garland without lights as well!

Add objects with varying heights
After I place the garland, I like to add in decor of varying heights. Above, I used a mix of glass candleholders, green taper candle holders, a pot filled with a faux tree, and a few shorter, white birds.
You could use a mix of whatever you love! For example, a set of glass trees, wood taper candles, glass votive candles, decorative figurines, faux trees & more! This Studio McGee faux tree is very similar to the one I have, and, it is 20% off and in-stock- run!! These wood Etsy Christmas trees would be fun styled on on a mantel. You want objects that sit lower in height like the birds above, mixed in with taller items like taper candles or faux trees.

Add stockings
Last, I add our stockings! My Pottery Barn stockings are still in stock! You can get them monogrammed or not. In addition, I’m loving these Target Threshold Studio McGee green stockings too! I like to use a simple stocking holder as to not draw attention away from the rest of the decor. I also like to hang our stockings on opposite sides of the fireplace- a grouping of 2 and 1 on the opposite side.
