You guys, I recently ordered this Chris Loves Julia x Loloi rug for our den, and after rolling it out, I could not get the edges to stay down. So, I set out to see how I could stop my new rug from curling!
First stop was Google.
I tried several different things that the all-knowing recommended.
I tried curling it the opposite way and letting it sit, I tried steaming it and setting heavy objects on it for over 24 hours, amongst other things.
Nothing worked.
So, I took it upon myself to figure out how to keep rugs from curling up.
Keep reading for the solution that worked for me!
p.s. I have had 4 Loloi rugs before this one, and I’ve never had an issue with any of them curling like this one.
Have a rug that won’t lie flat?
The products that didn’t work for me:
First, I wanted to mention the items that didn’t work.
Actually, let me back up a minute. I always use this rug pad under my rugs that I have on my hardwood floors.
I have it in our kitchen, entryway, den and living room.
This always keeps my rugs in place without issue. That wasn’t the problem here. My rug wasn’t sliding around, it was just curling up.
Ok, back to what didn’t work.
I first purchased this and this. Neither worked for more than a couple of minutes.
I followed the directions and did not find success with either. I’m not saying they are bad products; they just didn’t work for my situation.
what stopped my rug from curling:
After the first items I ordered didn’t work, the next thing I ordered was NeverCurl Corner Gripper. I was so skeptical after opening the package, and I actually thought there was zero chance this was going to work after seeing it.
Boy, was I 100% wrong.
You guys, this isn’t sticky on the hardwood side, but there must be some magic in there, because it immediately held down the corners. I was sold.
Now that my corner problem was solved, I was hoping the rest of the rug would just kind of settle down. But it didn’t.

(look how well the corners are staying down!)
So I stayed with the same brand and ordered their NeverCurl Double Sided Extra Thick Rug Tape for the rest of the rug that was curled. Magic again!
You guys, I have had zero issues for over 3 months of these products holding my rug in place.
And I work out on this rug (yes, I do my Barre3 class in my office,) and I work out of this room, so the rug gets a lot of use. I’m seriously in and out of this room all day long!

Problem solved!

Thanks for this fantastic tip!
As a home stager, this happens all the time and I’d love to find a solution.
Does this product cause damage to the floor? Would I be able to remove it 1 month later and the floor still be OK?
Hi Michelle,
It did not cause any damage to our flooring. We had it on for about 5 months, and I just removed it all, and there was zero damage or residue. The rug we had down is very thin, and it did fray the backing a bit when I removed the rug from the sticky part. Zero damage to the actual rug though.
So, I’m definitely not an expert, but no damage for me! We have finished & stained in place hardwood flooring.
