How To Layer Bedding For Fall Through Winter

October 30, 2022 Home Decor

Today is all about creating a cozy and layered bedding look that will take you from fall through winter.

I’m sharing the bedding and pillows I’m using for my bed, along with how you can easily create a high-end, layered bedding look all while keeping it cozy and warm at the same time!

p.s. You will never guess where the duvet cover I’m using is from!

how to layer bedding

1. start with your favorite sheets

how to layer bedding for fall through winter. start with cozy sheets, a light blanket, quilt & duvet cover with insert

My very favorite sheets, and the ones we are using this fall, are the Boll & Branch Cotton Percale Sheets. You can read all about why I love them here.

2. layer a thin blanket over the sheets

This year we are using this Waffle Bed Blanket, which I also love.

3. add a quilt

We have had this Target Quilt for several years, and it is the perfect layering quilt!

4. fold a duvet cover & down insert at the foot of the bed

We have this Duvet Cover for both our primary and guest bedrooms. It looks far more expensive than it is! You would never guess it is from JCPenney!

And we have this Down Alternative Insert in all 3 of our bedrooms!

5. add bed pillows

For our King bed, I like to start by adding 2 sleeping pillows topped with 2 standard pillows.

In front of those 4 pillows, I add 2 Euro pillows, leaning.

6. add decorative pillows

And in front of the bed pillows I love to add a few decorative pillows.

For this fall & winter look, I’m using 2, 20″ pillows and 1, 14×20″. I always use these inserts inside of my pillow covers.

Note- size up for your square pillows. For example, for the 20″ pillows, I have used a 22″ insert.

And here is the bedding transitioned to a Christmas look.

one more note:

I wanted to mention bedding colors.

I chose to go mostly white with the bottom layers. But this doesn’t need to be the case.

If you want a great example of a neutral layered bed that isn’t all white, see this Pottery Barn Bedroom here.

And this Pottery Barn bedroom remains neutral and cozy but has some pattern and color to it!

If you are adding in colors or neutrals, the steps still stay the same!

I hope this has helped you with your “how to layer bedding” questions! If you still have questions, feel free to leave a comment below!
