Sharing plans for updating our small bathroom, along with tips you can use in your own space!
We are in the planning stages of updating our guest bathroom, which is also our daughter’s bathroom. When we built our house in 2016, we had zero intentions of staying longer than a couple of years. My daughter was only 7 at the time, and we knew her bathroom was small, but so was she! At the time of building, we never considered curling irons, makeup and bins on top of bins of scented lotion. She had like a brush and toothbrush, and that was it 🙂 . Boy, how times have changed. Anyway, it is time to give her an updated bathroom, now that she is 13. We aren’t doing anything major, but hoping to give her a bit more storage, while at the same time making it prettier! Hoping you will be able to use some of these tips I’m sharing on how to update a small bathroom.
The Bathroom Design Board

I always start my planning process of any space with a design board. It helps me envision what each piece will look like together as a whole. Above is the design board! You can find the sources linked above, and I will also link them at the bottom of the post.
p.s. We are keeping all of the major items the same. The tile floor, vanity, countertop, sink & faucet will all remain the same.
p.s.s. Her vanity is custom, so I’m not able to link that. Also, her faucet & towel ring/bar are no longer available, so I have linked something similar.
The Before:
Ok, I first want to say that I considered having her clean her bathroom before I took these shots. But then I thought, if it is all picked up, you guys will have zero idea why we are so desperate for more storage! So, I kept it exactly like it looks every single day of the week! So. Much. Product. I didn’t even pick up the cat toy in the corner! I literally walked in and shot a few photos. Embarrassing? Sure. Real life? Absolutely!

The bones of it are good, but it is just a small, white, boring, messy box, and we are on a mission to change that!
The Plan:
Add more storage space
We are going to add some open shelves above her toilet, which will be great for small baskets & bins and storing all of the things, while still looking pretty!
We are also hoping to add an additional storage unit under her sink. She currently has these Under Cabinet Storage Drawers on one side, and we are hoping to be able to find something similar for the other side.
Add some personality
This bathroom currently has zero decor. It has been completely neglected since we moved in. So, we are wanting to add a pretty rug, new bath & hand towels, artwork, a few functional decor pieces & a new shower curtain!
Change out a few of the bigger items
We are adding a new mirror, new sconce above the mirror, and (I think) we will just paint the polished nickel part of her current overhead light. We are also changing out her cabinet hardware, and (maybe) switch out her towel bar and add some cute hooks instead.
This is going to be fun, and I look forward to sharing the process with you all in my Instagram stories! If you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment below, or you can always message me on Instagram!
