What Are The Best Pillow Sizes For A Sectional?

April 30, 2022 Home Decor

Today I’m finally answering a question for you all that I get asked all of the time! And that is, what size pillows do you use on your sectional? Now let me preface this blog post by saying that I’m sure there are differing opinions on this, and I’m just sharing what works for me! So let’s get to it, what are the best pillow sizes for a sectional?!?

Note- I will be linking all of the pillows below each photo. If you have questions about where something else is from, you can shop my home here.

p.s. You can find the details for the sectional here: Our Living Room Sectional (Pottery Barn Pearce Sectional)

Sectional Pillow Sizing Option #1

On the left side of the sofa, I have a 24″ pillow, a 20″ pillow and a 14×20″ lumbar pillow.

In the middle of the sectional, I have a 24″ pillow in the back, 22″ pillow on the left, 20″ pillow on the right, and a 14×20″ lumbar in the middle.

And on the right side of this sectional, I have a 20″ pillow along with a 14×20″ lumbar.

Sectional Pillow Sizes Option #2

If you have a sectional that has equal sides on the left & right, I would style it like the photo above with two larger pillows on the right.

The left side of the sectional above is the same as the first option: 24″, 20″, 14×20″ lumbar.

The center is the same as well: 24″, 22″, 20″, 14×20″ lumbar.

And on the right, I’m using two larger pillows compared to option 1: 24″ & a 20″

My Current Sectional Pillows

And here is a shot of my current sectional. I have the same size pillows as option 2 here.

Above, I have a 24″, 20″ & 14×20″ lumbar.

In the center I have a 24″, 22″, 20″ & a 14×20″ lumbar.

And on the right, I have a 24″ with a 20″.

One Last Important Note:

I ALWAYS use these pillow inserts. Even if I buy a pillow with an insert included, I remove that insert and use these. It really does make a huge difference! I have had most of my inserts for years (like some more than 10 years,) and they still all look amazing. Also, I almost always size up my inserts. So, for my 20″ pillow covers, I fill them with a 22″ insert. With exception of lumbar pillows. I use the same size with those. See this video for the why.
